Wilbur Thompson is an up and coming young musician and composer. He graduated from Winthrop University with a B.A. in music and has studied with and been coached by jazz greats Jerry Coker and Rufus Reid. In 2004, Wilbur was selected to play in one of the top jazz ensembles at the Jamey Aebersold jazz camp.
Wilbur has performed around the world in cities from San Francisco to Honolulu to Vancouver. He has performed with jazz greats Benny Powell (Count Basie Orchestra) and Marvin Stamm. After playing for Royal Caribbean Cruises, Wilbur returned to Charlotte NC where he now currently resides. He has performed at several jazz festivals, restaurants, weddings, churches, private events, and corporate functions in the Southeastern region.
Wilbur’s approach to playing and composing music is influenced by his roots in gospel and jazz music and his personal walk as a Christian man. Wilbur Thompson has a deeper purpose for playing though. Wilbur Thompson’s mission is to inspire, encourage, give hope, and spread love through music.
Wilbur is available for festivals, wedding receptions, church events, and corporate functions.
